Tom Anderson

Tom Anderson was born on November 8, 1970, in California, United States. He studied English and Rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley, before becoming involved in software development and internet businesses.

In 2003, while working at eUniverse (later Intermix Media), Anderson co-founded Myspace alongside Chris DeWolfe and a small development team. Inspired by the growing popularity of Friendster, they built Myspace in just a few weeks, focusing on giving users more freedom to customize their profiles and express themselves online.

The platform quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Within a few years, Myspace had attracted more than 100 million users worldwide and became the most visited social networking website on the internet. In 2005, News Corporation acquired Myspace's parent company, Intermix Media, for approximately $580 million, making Anderson one of the most recognizable figures in the technology industry.

Tom became affectionately known as "Myspace Tom" because every new user automatically had him as their first friend, making him one of the most connected people on the internet.

Following Myspace's decline and his departure from the company in 2009, Anderson stepped away from the technology spotlight. Rather than launching another startup, he pursued photography, travel, and personal investing. His landscape photography has been featured on his social media accounts and has earned praise for its quality.

Although Myspace eventually lost its dominance to Facebook, Tom Anderson remains an important figure in internet history. His work helped define the early social networking era and influenced the evolution of modern social media platforms.
